shroom is built so that we hold nothing of yours.
Updated 25 October 2026.
- Your videos live in your own Cloudflare account. We never receive them, store them or see them. Who can watch a video is up to you: anyone with its link can.
- AI, on unless you turn it off, runs in your own Cloudflare account: it hears what’s said in your new videos to name them and add chapters and captions. What it hears stays in your space and goes when you delete the video; it never reaches us. When you say “shroom cut”, viewers skip the slip at once, and it’s gone from the video itself, usually within minutes, once your Mac has saved the edited copy; the words cut stay in your space, and only you see them.
- The app talks to your Cloudflare account (to set it up, upload your videos and manage your space) and to GitHub (to check for updates, sending no ID or version; like any website, GitHub sees your IP address). An update downloads by way of this website, which counts it as one update to that version, from your country, and keeps nothing else. Beyond that, it sends us nothing on its own: no telemetry, no analytics, no crash reports. Its logs stay on your Mac unless you send us a report.
- Reports you send. When you press Send on Report a problem or on shroom.am/feedback, what you wrote, your shroom and macOS versions, your Mac's model and the cleaned log you were shown go by email to the person who makes shroom, and nowhere else. shroom.am keeps none of it. Nothing goes unless you press Send.
- Your Cloudflare token and card. The token you create during setup stays on your Mac, and a key made from it stays in your own Cloudflare account; neither ever reaches us. Your card goes to Cloudflare, on Cloudflare's own page, and shroom never sees it.
- This website counts visits so we can see how people find shroom. For each page it counts the page, the kind of browser (not which one), the site that linked here (just its name), the country, and a link's
?ref=tag if it has one. Downloading shroom, to install or update it, is counted the same way, with the version. It never keeps your IP address, your browser's details, the full address you came from, or a cookie. The counts are kept for three months. Cloudflare's Web Analytics also counts visits on our behalf, without cookies. - Your teammates. If you invite someone, their videos go to your Cloudflare account, and you can see and delete them. They can see only their own. Your space keeps its list of members in your own account: the names you give them and their Macs' names, never email addresses.
- People watching your videos get no cookies and aren't logged. Your space counts plays — how often each video is played and how far — in your own Cloudflare account, so it can suggest what to clean up. It keeps nothing that says who watched: not their IP address, not their browser, and nothing on their device. To count viewers roughly, it keeps a scrambled stand-in for each viewer for one day, then throws it away. We never see the counts.
- The video on our home page is this site's own file, and starts loading only once it's on your screen or close to it. Playing it isn't counted or logged.
